Jacksonville has been consolidated with Duval County since 1968, which makes it the largest city by land area in the contiguous United States — and every square mile of it keeps Eastern Time. Florida is a split state, but the boundary runs far to the west: Central Time begins only past the Apalachicola River, along the Gulf–Bay county line, more than 200 miles from downtown Jacksonville.
